Analyse des processus techniques et organisationnels qui mènent à des situations d'équilibre sanitaire dans les élevages bio

Abstract : OTOVEIL – Developing technical and organisational advisory tools for health surveillance and prevention in organic livestock farming Organic livestock farming is an ideal place for the implementation of a global approach to animal health, where the use of synthetic inputs (antibiotics, antiparasites) must be limited. Its roadmap recommends animal health management based on disease prevention. At the herd level, some organic livestock owners and/or their advisors understand the concept of health balance as a herd with few sick animals, receiving few medicinal inputs (antibiotics and antiparasites). This balance is more or less stable overtime. A loss of balance at the herd level is characterised by different disorders, the expression of several diseases, reproductive and animal welfare problems. In the project OTOVEIL, the determinants that qualify the health balance were identified by analysing the practices and perceptions of livestock farmers, as well as by statistics based on farm surveys. The OTOVEIL project has produced a decision support tool to strengthen prevention and surveillance through "Panse-Bêtes" grids for each of the five ruminant sectors in the form of "paper booklets" or in digital form WebAppli. This tool enables a multi-factorial approach to animal health management to be better integrated, by inviting the farmer to look for the causes of a health imbalance (building, watering, feeding, health, grassland, genetics, climate and season, etc.). It can be used by an individual farmer, by a farmer/veterinarian pair during follow-up visits, or during group meetings, where the adviser/facilitator can use the checklist to ask the right questions and create an action plan to remedy the difficulties.
